My school doesn’t have a theater. Can we still book a touring performance of one of your plays?
Yes! We can perform in any large, open space. We need an area of approximately 20 feet deep by 35 feet wide to perform in, plus room for the audience. Your school cafeteria, gym, library, or even a courtyard could work for our performance.
When do you take reservations for your touring performances?
We begin taking reservations for our popular school tours the second week of August for the fall tours and the second week of January for the spring tours. Email us at info@nmyoungactors.org to get started with your reservation!

Prospective Students
My child has previous theatrical experience.
Are they still required to complete Drama I?
Yes, we require all students who are new to our company and who wish to perform in one of our major productions to complete Drama I. The reason for this is two-fold: We want to get to know our actors, and we want them to get to know us (directors and fellow actors), before putting them on the big stage. The success of our productions relies on our tight-knit community.
When does the next round of Drama I start?
Classes are held in the fall semester (beginning in the middle of August), the spring semester (beginning in the middle of January), and in the summer (during the month of June).
We missed the beginning of Drama I. Can my child still participate in NMYA this semester?
Yes! Check out our Open Enrollment Theater Class offerings (under the Classes tab). These classes meet for seven or eight weeks and concentrate on specific skill sets. You can join at any time – call our office to arrange for a prorated fee.
Drama I is full. Is there a waitlist?
Yes! Use the registration site to be added to the waitlist. New students will be added in the order they registered. However, we do not often have openings once the semester has begun. Consider checking out our Open Enrollment Theater Class options (look under the Classes tab) in the meantime!
What ages of children do you work with?
Our Theater for Ages 5–8 is for five through eight year olds! Classes offered include Storybook Theater, Young Players, and our Summer Stars Camp.
Drama I and Advanced Drama is for nine through nineteen-year-olds. During the school year, Drama I is separated into two groups: one class for elementary students and one class for middle/high school students.
Do you offer financial aid?
Yes! We are proud of our commitment to making high quality theater education affordable for all. Tuition assistance is usually awarded at 50% reduction in fees, and can be applied to Drama I, Advanced Drama, Theater for Ages 5–8, Open Enrollment Theater Classes, or our Summer Workshops. More information can be found under the “Classes” tab.

What do our tuition fees cover?
Tuition fees cover: instructional costs, production materials, costumes, and a production t-shirt.
Are parents expected to provide costumes?
Depending on the production, parents may be asked to provide their child’s footwear. Most typically, actors are asked to perform in black jazz shoes. Also dependent on the production, parents may be asked to provide their child with a base layer, meaning, a tight-fitting layer of clothing that may be worn under a costume for modest or quick changes. Occasionally, parents will be asked to provide specific undergarments, socks, or hosiery.
Can parents attend rehearsal?
No, rehearsals and classes are closed to parents and other guests. In our experience, it is best for our actors to be responsible for themselves upon entering the rehearsal space. We do make an exception for students in our Theater for Ages 5-8 (Storybook Theater and Young Players). In those classes, parents are welcome to attend alongside their child.
Will my child miss school while participating in a major production?
Yes, your child will miss two or three days of school in order to participate in a performance. In our experience, most teachers are very understanding of the hands-on, real-world learning opportunity that performing in one of our shows entails.
